Yongin City announced on the 31st that the 'Bandabi Sports Center' project, to be built on the site of the temporary parking lot of Yongin Mir Stadium in Samga-dong 19-1, was selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'National Sports Center for the Disabled Construction Contest,' securing 4 billion KRW in national funding.
Accordingly, the city plans to construct a complex sports facility with three basement floors and three above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 52,452 square meters. The sports center will feature an internationally certified swimming pool with a Level 2 certification from the Korea Swimming Federation. It will include 10 lanes of 50 meters in length and seating for over 2,000 spectators to enable hosting international competitions, along with an underwater exercise room and a diving pool.
Above the swimming pool, there will be a multipurpose gymnasium, squash courts, a fitness certification center for the disabled, and family shower rooms. Additionally, a large-scale parking tower with 913 parking spaces, including disabled parking, will be constructed.
The center's construction will involve a total investment of 165.9 billion KRW, including 4 billion KRW in national funds and 161.9 billion KRW in local funds. The city plans to begin construction in 2026 after completing administrative procedures such as the government's central investment review and shared property deliberation starting this year. The expected completion date is the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028.
Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, said, "This selection in the contest will greatly contribute not only to improving the welfare of over 37,000 disabled residents in Yongin but also to enhancing the quality of life for local residents. We will expedite the administrative procedures to swiftly establish the complex sports center."
