Lim Ae-ji (25, Hwasun County Office), the last member of the South Korean boxing team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, increased the possibility of bringing a medal to Korean boxing for the first time in 12 years by overcoming the round of 16 hurdle.
On the 30th (local time), Lim Ae-ji won by a 4-1 decision against Tatiana Regina de Jesus Chagas (Brazil) in the women's 54kg boxing match at the North Arena in Paris, France, during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Despite injuries to her left shoulder and left leg in this tournament, Lim Ae-ji defeated the experienced Brazilian boxer by decision.
If Lim Ae-ji wins the quarterfinal match scheduled for 4:04 AM KST on the 2nd of next month, she will secure an Olympic medal for Korean boxing for the first time in 12 years. This would also be recorded as the first Olympic medal in the history of South Korean women's boxing.
The last Olympic medal for Korean boxing was won by Han Soon-chul, who took silver in the men's lightweight division at the 2012 London Games.
