Tesla Recalls 1.8 Million Vehicles in the US

U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced a recall of 1.8 million vehicles in the United States due to a hood issue, according to reports by AP News and others on the 30th (local time).

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled Tesla vehicles have a software error that fails to detect when the car's hood latch is unlatched, which may cause the hood to open and obstruct the driver's view, increasing the risk of accidents.

Tesla has released an over-the-air software update to address the issue. The recall covers 2021?2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020?2024 Model Y vehicles.

Tesla has also begun investigating customer complaints regarding Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China. Although the frequency of such issues has been lower in Europe and North America, Tesla has initiated dedicated engineering research.

This recall is the largest since Tesla recalled 2.03 million vehicles in the U.S. last December to install safety features on its autonomous driving assist system, Autopilot.
