Election of Jang Taeyong as Chair of the Administrative and Autonomy Committee in Seoul Metropolitan Council

Chairman Jang: "I will work diligently on administrative innovation and alternatives to focus on citizen safety and support"

On the 29th, the Seoul Metropolitan Council elected Assemblyman Jang Tae-yong (People Power Party, Gangdong 4) as the chairman of the Administrative Autonomy Committee, which handles matters related to Seoul's overall administration and finance, cooperation with autonomous districts, and citizen protection and support, during the 325th extraordinary session.

Chairman Jang Tae-yong served as an aide to Lee Jae-young, a proportional representative of the Saenuri Party in the 19th National Assembly, and worked as an administrative officer for local governments before entering the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council. After being elected as a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, he gained experience in major Seoul administration by participating in the Planning and Economy Committee, Special Budget and Accounts Committee, Special Committee for Integrated Promotion of Seoul Future Strategy, and Ethics Special Committee.

The Administrative Autonomy Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council oversees 13 executive bodies related to maintaining, managing, and improving Seoul’s administrative functions as well as citizen protection and support (including 4 bureaus, 3 committees, 1 planning officer, 1 institute, 25 divisions, 7 departments, 159 teams, 1 business office, 4 affiliated institutions, and 69 private consignment institutions). The committee reviews a budget of 12.263 trillion KRW, which accounts for about one-quarter (26.1%) of Seoul’s total budget, manages Seoul’s assets, and handles policies that form the foundation of Seoul’s administration.

Chairman Jang stated, “Although the financial conditions of Seoul and its autonomous districts are difficult, the diverse administrative demands of citizens are increasing, making large-scale budget investment inevitable. To accurately reflect citizens’ demands, we will strengthen communication with autonomous districts and citizens, and improve unreasonable administration to maximize administrative efficiency.”

He also outlined the committee’s operational direction, saying, “From Seoul’s revenue to asset management, policies, units, and detailed projects, we will thoroughly review necessity, urgency, and validity to establish a foundation for continuous and stable city administration.”

Furthermore, Chairman Jang said, “We will enhance communication and cooperation within the committee to gather diverse opinions and strive to make rational decisions based on them. We will efficiently manage Seoul’s budget and assets and actively promote policies for citizens’ welfare and safety.”
