Raon Meta, a subsidiary of Raon Secure, is ushering in a new era in the field of medical research practice through its own service, MetaDemy.
Raon Meta (CEO Lee Soon-hyung), a company specializing in generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based metaverse platforms, has officially launched the "Laboratory Animal Autopsy Practice Content" provided in an extended reality (XR) environment on MetaDemy, a metaverse-based practice specialized service.
By utilizing the laboratory animal autopsy practice content, Raon Meta expects to reduce the unnecessary sacrifice of laboratory animals during practice sessions, thereby addressing the ethical issues of animal testing that have become a social problem, and partially resolving environmental pollution issues caused by the disposal of animal corpses.
According to the "2023 Animal Experiment Ethics Committee Operation and Animal Experiment Status Survey" by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, the number of laboratory animals used for testing the efficacy and effects of pharmaceuticals exceeded 4.5 million last year.
MetaDemy’s laboratory animal autopsy practice content enables vivid autopsy practice in virtual reality without the need to kill actual laboratory animals. Users can learn the entire autopsy process from preparation using a virtual rat to corpse disposal, and actual autopsy videos are provided as learning guides to enhance understanding. After sufficient practice, users can verify their skills in a test mode without any guides.
Along with the official launch of the laboratory animal autopsy practice content, Raon Meta also conducted a major update of the MetaDemy client version. To provide customers with a richer and more effective metaverse practice experience, the graphics of the metaverse world and avatars were improved, dedicated halls for each practice content were newly established, and digital badges and blockchain-based certificate issuance functions were added. Additionally, nursing care practice content was released to diversify the content further.
Yoon Won-seok, Head of MetaDemy Business Division at Raon Meta, said, “The newly released laboratory animal autopsy practice content is a practical metaverse content developed jointly with Catholic University Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital, reflecting professional knowledge and practice know-how from the medical field. It is optimized for the Laboratory Animal Technician Qualification Exam required in medical research sites.” He added, “Based on the domestic launch of the laboratory animal autopsy practice content, we plan to actively explore overseas markets such as the United States, where the market size reaches trillions of won.”
Meanwhile, Raon Meta signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Catholic University Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital in February to develop the laboratory animal autopsy practice content. In March, it jointly filed a patent with Catholic University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation for the world’s first “training content for laboratory animals using extended reality (XR) devices, including autopsy, surgical techniques, administration, blood collection, anesthesia, and euthanasia.”
