Bereaved Family Claims "Negligent Measures Led to Unjust Death"
Psychiatrist specialist Yang Jae-woong (42) apologized for the patient death incident that occurred at his hospital.
On the 29th, Yang said through his agency Mystic Story, "The medical staff and I cannot hide our devastated feelings regarding the incident that occurred during the hospitalization process, and we sincerely apologize to the deceased and the bereaved family who must be grieving." He added, "Our hospital is cooperating fully with external agencies in the ongoing investigation by providing medical charts and CCTV footage that capture the situation at the time."
He also said, "Since the specific details of the treatment process and the incident involving the deceased are currently under investigation, we ask that speculative posts and sensational reports about the treatment course be refrained from," and "Under current medical law, medical personnel are obligated not to disclose patient treatment details, so we ask for your understanding that we cannot provide detailed answers to inquiries."
Finally, Yang said, "Not only myself as the hospital director but all medical staff will cooperate sincerely with the forthcoming investigation and take full responsibility according to the medical and legal judgments that follow," and "Once again, I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family."

Earlier, on the 26th, SBS reported that a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, died on May 27 at a psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, operated by a famous psychiatrist. Ms. A was admitted to the hospital for treatment of addiction to diet pills containing narcotic substances but died 17 days after admission. The cause of death was presumed to be pseudo-obstruction of the intestine. Pseudo-obstruction is a condition where intestinal motility is impaired, causing food to accumulate in the intestines, resulting in symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and constipation.
After admission, Ms. A experienced difficulty with bowel movements and intermittent abdominal pain, and on the day before her death, she reportedly complained of severe abdominal pain. Notably, CCTV footage capturing the situation showed Ms. A knocking on the door while clutching her abdomen in an isolation room (calm room), after which a nursing assistant and a caregiver entered, administered a sedative, and forcibly restrained her hands, feet, and chest to the bed, sparking controversy. Ms. A’s older brother told Yonhap News, "We trusted the hospital operated by a famous psychiatrist and entrusted my sister, but she died unjustly due to inadequate measures."
Ms. A’s bereaved family filed a complaint with the police against six medical staff members on charges of neglect resulting in death and professional negligence causing death. Initially, the hospital name and the hospital director’s name were not disclosed in reports. However, it was later revealed that the hospital was operated by Yang, leading to controversy. Consequently, singer-turned-actress Hani, who is scheduled to marry Yang in September, also received a flood of malicious comments.
