Abundant Summer Vacation Programs in Each Seoul District

Abundant Summer Vacation Programs in Each Seoul District The scene of the 'I am also a chef! Handmade Gangjeong Making' class held on the 23rd for elementary school students in Gwangjin-gu during the summer vacation. Provided by Gwangjin-gu.

To celebrate summer vacation, each district in Seoul is preparing a variety of unique programs. Most of these are free or affordable, making them perfect for the current high-inflation era.

Seocho-gu will hold a special Saturday performance titled "Summer Vacation" for students and family audiences at the Seocho Cultural Arts Center on the 10th of next month. The performance will begin with a dazzling dance stage by the dance performance team "Bling Girls," who appeared on Mnet's "Street Dance Girls Fighter." There will also be a drawing magic show that combines a drawing show?where famous figures and masterpieces are quickly sketched on the spot?with spectacular magic. Additionally, a musical blending episodes set in a school with b-boy dance will be presented.

Reservations can be made from the 29th of this month through Seocho-gu's integrated reservation system on the website. Admission is affordable, costing 2,500 KRW for Seocho residents and 5,000 KRW for non-residents.

Gangnam-gu operates the "Omiogam Food Experience Program," where fathers and children in grades 1 to 3 of elementary school can learn to prepare healthy meals using seasonal ingredients. This program is designed to enhance children's ability to appreciate the natural taste of food and choose good foods through sensory activities and nutrition education.

Using the "2024 Healthy Gangnam Table Seasonal Food Calendar," produced by the district earlier this year, the program aims to familiarize participants with the nutrition and value of seasonal foods, which may be unfamiliar to them. Corn and peaches have been selected as the seasonal ingredients for August. Based on these, the class includes ingredient exploration and worksheet activities, making corn chicken breast balls and peach Greek yogurt, and concludes with setting future family meal goals and sharing experiences.

There will be two in-person sessions, each accommodating 30 participants, for a total of 60 people. Classes will be held on the 9th and 12th of next month in the morning at SCOOK Cheongdam Cooking Academy. Registration for in-person participation opens on the 30th of this month and runs until August 2nd on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mapo-gu will operate a "Children's Climbing Class" for elementary school students at the Park Young-seok Mountain Culture Experience Center in Sangam-dong from the 6th to the 16th of next month. Participation is free, with only a small equipment usage fee required.

There is also a "Practicing Resource Circulation" program, which encourages reflecting on the meaning of resource recycling and making household items through upcycling crafts. On the 5th of next month, participants will make water bottle bags and tea coasters using sock yarn, and on the 12th, they will make neck pillows from sock yarn. The course fee is 5,000 KRW. Applications for both the "Children's Climbing Class" and the "Practicing Resource Circulation" program can be made through the Mapo-gu Lifelong Learning Portal.

At Mapo Central Library, a four-day children's summer vacation reading class titled "The Rediscovery of the Very Small Plant Moss," which integrates ecological environment education, will be held from the 6th to the 9th of next month. Children will search for materials about moss inside the library, collect moss around the library, and create terrariums by cultivating plants in glass containers. This activity helps develop information utilization skills and ecological sensitivity. The program is targeted at elementary school students in grades 4 and 5.
