SOS Lab Develops High-Performance LiDAR for US Global Automakers

On the 29th, SOSLAB announced that it is developing a high-performance autonomous driving LiDAR to be applied to a global American automobile manufacturer. After producing a prototype LiDAR in the first half of next year and conducting tests, the company plans to supply a high-performance LiDAR optimized for the autonomous driving system of the said manufacturer.

The LiDAR being developed this time is an ultra-wide-angle LiDAR based on ‘ML-A’, featuring a ‘Diffuser’, an optical diffusion refraction device, applied inside the receiving lens. It is characterized by securing a wider field of view than existing LiDARs. For short-range LiDAR, it can cover a horizontal field of view of 190 degrees, and for long-range LiDAR, up to 300 meters.

ML-A is a fixed 3D LiDAR that can be mounted on vehicle lamps and is SOSLAB’s core product. Its advantage is the ability to precisely recognize the surrounding environment of the vehicle with a resolution of 0.1 degrees. Through proprietary artificial intelligence (AI)-based software technology, the accuracy and stability of the LiDAR have been maximized even in harsh weather conditions. It also boasts excellent price competitiveness and is evaluated as a product that possesses all the standard elements of a complete LiDAR.

SOSLAB plans to maximize autonomous driving functions through its self-developed ‘LCU (LiDAR Control Unit)’ system. Each autonomous vehicle is equipped with four short-range LiDARs and one mid-to-long-range LiDAR, and one LCU integrates and manages five LiDARs. The LCU is a core solution that enables smooth autonomous driving by processing received data in real time.

An SOSLAB official said, “We started developing this LiDAR after receiving a development request from the customer, who highly evaluated our outstanding technology related to LiDAR for autonomous vehicles,” and added, “We will expedite the commercialization timeline through close collaboration with global automobile manufacturers.”

He continued, “The said automobile manufacturer utilizes NVIDIA’s autonomous driving platform, so if this project succeeds, there is a possibility of supplying LiDAR through NVIDIA’s autonomous driving platform,” and emphasized, “Since we are also in discussions with domestic and European automobile manufacturers for the application of high-performance LiDAR, visible results are expected soon.”
