Free Kangdodari Pohang Mulhoe Tasting Booth Promotes Healthy Dining
Consumption Promotion Campaign to Revitalize the Local Fisheries Industry
Pohang City held the "Gangdodari Consumption Promotion, Pohang Mulhoe Tasting Event" at Pohang Station Square for two days on the 26th and 27th, receiving a positive response from tourists visiting Pohang.
Pohang City held a free tasting promotional event at Pohang Station to promote the consumption of local seafood.
Recently, the local fisheries industry has been facing an unprecedented crisis due to a decline in seafood production caused by rising sea temperatures from abnormal climate conditions. The situation has been exacerbated by an increase in jellyfish, making fishing operations even more difficult. As a result, the shipping price of Gangdodari, Pohang's representative farmed fish species, has dropped to only 70% of the usual rate, putting the aquaculture industry at risk.
In response, Pohang City organized a tasting and promotional event targeting visitors at Pohang Station to boost morale within the local fisheries industry and encourage seafood consumption by promoting local seafood products.
This event, co-hosted with the Gyeongbuk Provincial Federation of Korean Fisheries Managers, offered Pohang Mulhoe made with Gangdodari, the region's representative farmed seafood, to tourists visiting Pohang Station during the summer vacation season, served in cups.
Additionally, Pohang City, in cooperation with organizations such as Pohang Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Pohang Coast Guard, Pohang Branch of the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service, Gyeongbuk Provincial Marine and Fisheries Division, Pohang Fisheries Cooperative, Pohang Fish Farming Association, and Korea Railroad Corporation, conducted a seafood consumption promotion and tasting campaign under the slogan "A Healthy Table from the Sea, Enjoy with Pohang Seafood."
Son Jeongho, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau, stated, "The local fisheries industry is facing a major crisis due to abnormal climate and rising sea temperatures," and added, "As there are many fisheries workers who are working day and night under difficult circumstances to supply excellent seafood to our tables, Pohang City will also do its utmost to promote seafood consumption."
