Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will operate the "Nature, Let's Play! Garden Playground" from September to October to enhance children's understanding of environmental issues.
This program aims to help children understand biodiversity through nature observation and to foster proper values regarding environmental conservation through hands-on education tailored to their level. It is an ecological environmental education program conducted in collaboration with Yongsan Family Park, and the tuition is free.
The district has planned a total of 15 sessions, each lasting 90 minutes from 10 a.m. every Thursday and Friday during September and October, targeting children aged 6 to 7 who attend local daycare centers and kindergartens. Each session has a capacity of 15 participants.
The main content of the children's ecological environmental education will be "Autumn Scent" in September and "Gather Around~ Fruits" in October, held at the Yongsan Family Park garden. The program is designed to help children learn the importance of soil and living organisms through various hands-on activities, such as observing whether the leaves and stems of flowers blooming in autumn have scents and preparing a meal for animals using autumn fruits.
Applications for the program will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via email to the district office's Environmental Planning Team from July 29 to August 9.
District Mayor Park Hee-young said, "Problems caused by recent climate change are becoming increasingly serious, and the importance of environmental education is also growing. We will do our best to present a more substantial ecological education program for children."
