An insurance product that legally covers liability and medical expenses up to 20 million KRW in case of accidents occurring at restaurants or cafes has been introduced.
According to Seoul City on the 28th, the 'Welcome Kids Safety Insurance' containing such coverage will start accepting applications from Hanwha General Insurance from the 29th.
This product is designed to prepare for burns and slip accidents that may occur in restaurants or cafes. Seoul City stated that this is the first insurance of its kind nationwide.
One of the reasons for operating 'No Kids Zones' is that business owners must take responsibility for child-related accidents occurring on their premises. The city planned this insurance to reduce such concerns and burdens and thereby decrease the number of No Kids Zones.
The Welcome Kids Safety Insurance can be purchased by restaurant or cafe owners at an annual rate of around 20,000 KRW based on a business area of 100㎡. In case of safety accidents at the business site, it covers legal liability, medical expenses, and more up to 20 million KRW.
The eligible applicants are all 160,000 general and casual dining establishments located in Seoul.
It also includes medical expense coverage (up to 1 million KRW per person and 1 million KRW per accident) for treatment costs incurred within the business premises due to moral responsibility even if the operator is not at fault, and an employee bodily injury coverage special contract (up to 10 million KRW per person and 20 million KRW per accident) for injuries sustained by employees.
Kim Seon-soon, Director of the Seoul City Women and Family Office, said, "Concerns and burdens about accidents are the biggest reasons for considering No Kids Zones. This insurance will ease business owners' worries and ultimately contribute to creating an environment where both caregivers and children can go out comfortably and happily."
