Song Soonho, the regional chairperson for Masanhwawon-gu, Changwon City, has been elected as the new chairperson of the Gyeongnam Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 27th, at the Gyeongnam Provincial Chapter’s regular party member convention held at the Changwon Convention Center, candidate Song won the provincial chairperson election with a final 54.70% of the votes, defeating Park Junho, the provincial vice-chairperson, who received 45.26%.
The election for the provincial chairperson reflected 80% of votes from the party member electoral college via ARS voting and 20% from the delegate electoral college through on-site voting.
Song received 7,552 votes (54.37%) from party members and 302 votes (56.03%) from delegates.

He stated, “I will make Gyeongnam Democratic Party usher in an era of party member sovereignty,” and added, “Just as the Constitution states all sovereignty comes from the people, I will make it so that the 4.5 million party members are recognized as the true owners of the Democratic Party of Korea.”
He continued, “The thoughts and opinions of party members should become the party’s policies, and the will of the members should become the party’s official stance. That is the value and spirit the Democratic Party should uphold,” adding, “Song Soonho will make this happen.”
