From the 1st of next month, 2 times during commuting hours and 1 time at leaving work
Limitations due to the structural characteristics of the single-track platform
Seoul Metro announced on the 29th that starting from the 1st of next month, it will increase the number of trains departing from Sinnnae Station on Subway Line 6 during rush hours by three.
The number of trains during the morning rush hours from 7 to 9 a.m. will increase from the existing 7 to 9, and during the evening rush hours from 6 to 8 p.m., it will increase from 6 to 7. As a result, the total number of trains departing from Sinnnae Station will rise from 56 to 59 per day. The additional train departure times from Sinnnae Station will be at 7:12 a.m., 8:17 a.m., and 6:44 p.m.
Sinnnae Station, which opened in December 2019, has seen a steady increase in passengers since August 2021 due to the move-in of residents in nearby public housing areas such as Yangwon District, leading to continuous requests for increased train frequency.
However, unlike typical stations, Sinnnae Station has a single-track structure where both the up and down lines share one track, making it difficult to increase the number of trains. Due to the unique structure where a down line train can only enter after an up line train has passed, there were limitations to increasing train frequency. For a train to enter Sinnnae Station from the previous station, Bonghwasan Station, the train waiting at Sinnnae Station must first depart to Bonghwasan Station before another train can enter Sinnnae Station from Bonghwasan Station.
The current train interval for trains departing Sinnnae Station is about 16 minutes during rush hours and 24 minutes during off-peak times. This is up to four times longer than the intervals on the main Line 6 section (Eungam to Bonghwasan Station), which are 4 minutes during rush hours and 8 minutes during off-peak times.
Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “Increasing the number of trains during rush hours at Sinnnae Station will resolve the inconvenience complaints regarding train intervals, which have been a long-standing concern for passengers using Sinnnae Station, and is expected to ensure a more comfortable commute.” He added, “We will continue to improve convenient transportation services to become a subway system loved by citizens.”
