In the Busan primary of the nationwide party member convention to elect the next leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, candidate Lee Jae-myung continued his overwhelming victory, securing over 90% of the votes against candidates Kim Doo-kwan and Kim Ji-soo.

According to the Democratic Party on the 27th, candidate Lee received 92.08% of the votes in the 6th regional tour primary online voting for party members held at BEXCO in Haeundae, Busan. Candidate Kim Doo-kwan received 7.04%, and candidate Kim Ji-soo received 0.89%. Lee also won decisively in the previous Ulsan primary with 90.56% of the vote. Kim Doo-kwan and Kim Ji-soo received 8.08% and 1.36%, respectively, in the Ulsan primary.


At the joint speech event of the Busan Metropolitan City Party on the same day, candidate Kim Doo-kwan stated, "Gaeddal have taken over the Democratic Party," and asked, "Do you think we can win the next presidential and local elections like this?" Gaeddal, a shortened form of "daughters of reform," refers to Lee’s fervent supporters. Although party members in the Busan region strongly opposed Kim Doo-kwan’s remarks, he responded, "We need to look at this coldly," adding, "In the public opinion poll conducted the day before, our party’s support rate was 11 percentage points lower than that of the People Power Party."


In the Busan primary for the Supreme Council member, candidate Kim Min-seok took first place with 21.51%, following his lead in Ulsan. The rankings were followed by Jeong Bong-ju (17.63%), Han Jun-ho (13.83%), Kim Byung-joo (12.76%), Lee Eon-ju (11.78%), Jeon Hyun-hee (11.12%), Min Hyung-bae (6.23%), and Kang Seon-woo (5.15%).


The Democratic Party plans to continue the primaries in the Gyeongnam region following Ulsan and Busan.
