Over 100 Participants Join Janggi Tournament at Daegaya-eup Senior Center
On Saturday, the 27th, at 10:30 a.m., the 4th Goryeong County Folk Janggi Tournament was held at the Senior Citizens’ Center in Daegaya-eup, Goryeong County (Governor Lee Namcheol).
Organized by the Goryeong Branch of the Korea Janggi Federation, the Goryeong Folk Janggi Tournament aims to inherit and develop traditional culture and foster a healthy leisure culture through Janggi matches, a wholesome traditional board game.
Now in its fourth year, the Goryeong County Folk Janggi Tournament saw over 100 Janggi enthusiasts participate, showcasing the skills they have honed over time.
Janggi is gaining popularity as it can be played easily by people of all ages and genders, without restrictions on location, at little cost, and is known to aid in brain development and dementia prevention.
Ji Jaesam, head of the Goryeong Branch of the Korea Janggi Federation, said, “Janggi is a game that our ancestors enjoyed, much like a miniature version of life itself. We prepared this tournament in hopes that Janggi enthusiasts can find a moment of relaxation and enjoy their leisure time amidst their busy daily lives.”
