Choo Kyung-ho "One Defector... The Rest Are Mistakes"
Han Dong-hoon "No Change in Position on Third-Party Special Prosecutor Law 추진"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, responded to the Democratic Party's reaction that there was a "modest achievement" regarding some defections within the ruling party during the re-vote on the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law by saying, "Their dream is modest."
On the 26th, Han met with reporters at the Yeouido party office in Seoul and said, "It is not a matter to be interpreted to that extent. It seems to be just a slight mistake." During the first vote on the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law on the 4th, there was only one defection from the ruling party, but analysis showed that there were four defections in this re-vote.
Han said, "It is not only this law that has been problematic, but also the four broadcasting laws and the attempted impeachment of the vice chairman of the Korea Communications Commission." He added, "I think these series of processes are extremely outrageous legislative violence." He also pointed out, "Especially seeing the attempt to impeach the vice chairman of the Korea Communications Commission must have shocked the public a lot," and said, "They must have been fed up."
Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader, also met with reporters in the morning and explained regarding the defections, "One person who supported the special prosecutor law has been confirmed by our party," and "Two others had marking errors and explicit mistakes. The remaining one vote was also a mistake." He added, "In conclusion, what we have identified aligns with expectations that there is a substance of shared opposition within our party to the unfairness of the special prosecutor."
Regarding the Democratic Party's plan to propose a strengthened Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law, Han responded, "No matter how many numbers there are, I will watch together with the people how long the public will tolerate ignoring basic common sense and legal systems, causing the National Assembly to stall and obstructing people's livelihoods." On the idea of pushing for a third-party special prosecutor law, he said, "My position has not changed," and emphasized, "Considering the current situation, my stance that it can be a sufficient alternative remains unchanged. I will explain this thoroughly through democratic procedures within the party."
