Choo Kyung-ho "Democratic Party's Idea Paralyzing National Administration, Appalling"

Democratic Party Opposes Impeachment of Acting Chair of Korea Communications Commission
"KCC's Work Is Not Only Broadcasting... IT and Telecommunications Are Also Important"
President Yoon Approves Dismissal of Acting Chair Lee Sang-in on the Same Day

Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for pushing the impeachment of Lee Sang-in, acting chairman and vice chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, saying, "The idea of paralyzing national administrative work solely to seize control of broadcasting for party interests is truly shocking."

At a press conference at the National Assembly on the 26th, Floor Leader Choo said, "If the acting chairman of the Korea Communications Commission is impeached according to the Democratic Party's dark scheme, the moment that happens, the commission's work will come to a halt." He added, "If the Democratic Party is displeased, they have pushed for the impeachment of prosecutors, judges, and ministers, and now they are proceeding with the impeachment of the acting chairman of the Korea Communications Commission." He emphasized, "Article 65 of the Constitution specifically lists the subjects of impeachment by the National Assembly, and Article 6 of the Korea Communications Commission Act stipulates that only the chairman is subject to impeachment, so the acting chairman is not an impeachment target from the start."

Floor Leader Choo stated, "The acting chairman only temporarily performs the duties and does not succeed to the chairman's position," and "Impeaching the acting chairman without explicit legal provisions is itself an illegal act." He continued, "The only reason the Democratic Party is recklessly pushing for the impeachment of the chairman and illegally attempting to impeach the acting chairman is to seize control of public broadcasting." He explained, "The Korea Communications Commission's responsibilities are not only broadcasting but also more important information technology (IT) and telecommunications policies. Developing the telecommunications environment and technology and preventing voice phishing are also the commission's duties."

President Yoon Suk-yeol approved the dismissal of Vice Chairman Lee, who had been acting as the vacant chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, earlier that morning.

Floor Leader Choo also criticized National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, saying, "How long will Speaker Woo, who accepts only the Democratic Party's demands without proper legal review, continue to claim to be the leader of the Democratic Party?" He added, "I hope he returns not only as a member of his home party, the Democratic Party, but as the representative of the National Assembly."
