Implementation on September 1, Hard Work on Payment Systems
Children Aged 7-12 Need to Prepare Transportation Cards
Ulsan City is accelerating its preparations for the implementation of free city bus fares for children, which will take effect on September 1.
The free city bus fare program for children is one of the key policies in the latter half of Ulsan City's 8th popularly elected administration, under the 'Ulbushim Saenghwal Plus Project.'
Following the announcement of the 'Ulbushim Saenghwal Plus Project' on July 4, Ulsan City formed a task force to begin preparations for the implementation of free city bus fares for children.
Starting from July 5, the day after the announcement, the city held three rounds of working-level meetings with transportation card operators and the Ulsan City Bus Transportation Association to share the step-by-step project plan and discuss necessary preparations.
In particular, to prevent confusion during the rollout of the new policy, the city discussed training and other necessary measures for bus crew members and other transportation workers.
Additionally, the city shared the schedule for updating the transportation card payment system and is working to modify the program to prevent payment errors on the launch date.
An Ulsan City official stated, "We will first provide free fares to children, which can be implemented without a separate system, and will thoroughly prepare to extend this to seniors?who require a dedicated system and card issuance?by the second half of next year. Through this, we aim to improve citizens' satisfaction in daily life and increase the usage rate of city buses, which are currently the only form of public transportation available."
The free city bus fare program for children will apply to all 183 routes, including regular city buses, direct-seat buses such as the Ulsan Station limousine bus, branch lines, and village buses.
This policy applies only to children aged 7 to 12. Eligible children can purchase a transportation card at convenience stores and register their date of birth to use the service.
If a child is already using a registered transportation card, no additional steps are necessary. When accompanied by a guardian, multiple payments can be made using the guardian's card.
However, if a transportation card is not available, a cash fare (600 won for regular city buses) must be paid.
