MOU for Space Business Cooperation with UK Surrey University
A space project to launch a British satellite using South Korea's launch vehicle 'Nuriho' is set to begin.
Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 26th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for global space business cooperation with the University of Surrey at the University of Surrey campus located in Surrey, UK, on the 25th (local time).
The University of Surrey is a leading British space industry university that has been conducting space industry technology development and research for over 40 years, since establishing the space center 'SSC (Space South Central)' in 1979, producing small satellites independently in 1981, and participating in the joint development of South Korea's first satellite 'UriByul 1' in 1992.
Both parties agreed to seek new business opportunities and share relevant information in line with the global space industry trend of increasing demand for satellite services and launch services.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to discover a project to place a satellite developed by the University of Surrey into orbit using Nuriho, for which it has been performing system integration since the third launch last year, and to cooperate in developing new space services based on satellite data.
Prior to this, on the 23rd, officials from the University of Surrey and the UK Space Agency visited Hanwha's exhibition booth at the 'Farnborough Airshow' in London, where they heard about Hanwha's vision for space business including Nuriho and confirmed its technological capabilities.
A Hanwha Aerospace official said, "Based on global collaboration, we will actively seek new space business opportunities and lead South Korea's new space era."
