Achieving 'Communication Administration' by Promoting to Residents and Encouraging Participation Ahead of Completion in the Second Half of the Year
Online Applications Accepted on District Website from July 29 to August 9...Tourism Souvenirs Presented Upon Selection
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is inviting official name suggestions for the ‘Seokchon Lake Art Gallery (tentative name)’, which will be completed in October, from July 29 to August 9.
The ‘Seokchon Lake Art Gallery (166 Songpanaru-gil)’ is the district’s first standalone municipal art museum. It boasts an optimal location as a tourist attraction, situated along the east side of Seokchon Lake and just about 100 meters from Songridan-gil.
The building is designed to harmonize with the lakeside scenery, featuring a low height with a total floor area of 709㎡ on a 1,400㎡ site, consisting of two basement floors and a single above-ground floor. Two exhibition halls will be established: 255㎡ (77 pyeong) on the first basement level and 156㎡ (47 pyeong) on the ground floor. Additionally, a rooftop observatory will be created where visitors can quietly enjoy views of the lake.
The gallery will be developed as an uninterrupted ‘open space’ maximizing public accessibility. Considering the high foot traffic, the underground exhibition hall will connect organically with the Seokchon Lake walking trail, and the ground-floor exhibition hall will link with the roadside sidewalk, allowing anyone to visit comfortably and freely.
The ‘Naming Contest’ is an event planned by the district to raise public interest in the new art museum before its completion and to reflect residents’ voices in district administration. Anyone nationwide, including district residents, can participate through the district’s official website, with submissions limited to one name per person. The district will select a total of five winners: one grand prize, one gold prize, and three silver prizes, awarding them with Songpa-gu tourism souvenirs.
The district anticipates that the new gallery will establish itself as a cultural space befitting the reputation of Seokchon Lake, providing diverse cultural and artistic experiences in residents’ daily lives. It is also expected to offer much-needed exhibition space for artists active within the district.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We ask for the residents’ great interest and support for the new art gallery to be built by Seokchon Lake in the beautiful season of October,” adding, “We will do our best to select an original and distinctive name so that the new cultural facility can enhance the prestige of Seokchon Lake.”
