Changwon Special Mayor Hong Nam-pyo Networks with the World's Top Project Management Experts

The Only Local Government Head in Korea to Attend the PMI Asia-Pacific Regional Board

Nam-pyo Hong, the Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, was the only representative from Korea to be invited to and attend the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Board Meeting hosted by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from the 24th to the 25th.

Changwon Special Mayor Hong Nam-pyo Networks with the World's Top Project Management Experts Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, is participating in the PMI Asia-Pacific Board roundtable meeting, exchanging opinions with management experts.

PMI, headquartered in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, USA, is a global community with 700,000 project managers worldwide. The institute researches Project Management (PM), a scientific and sophisticated management methodology for systematically overseeing all phases of a business from start to finish, and issues certifications such as PMP and CAPM.

This PMI Board Meeting, the first ever held in the Asia-Pacific region, was conducted by invitation only. It brought together about 20 CEOs from world-renowned groups such as Microsoft and IBM. Nam-pyo Hong was invited to share his experience and know-how in successfully managing large-scale projects in the public sector using PM methodologies.

Mayor Hong, unusually for a local government head in Korea, holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He has applied PM methodologies to manage and resolve major city projects and challenges with high technical complexity and uncertainty, such as the establishment of next-generation advanced composite beam irradiation facilities.

At the board meeting, Mayor Hong shared a wide range of experiences and case studies involving the integration of PM methodologies in Changwon Special City, as well as in the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea. As a result, Amit Goyal, PMI South Asia Regional Director, requested that he give a special lecture to Indian ministers and local government heads at a meeting to be held in New Delhi this November, focusing on the application of scientific management techniques in the public sector.

Mayor Hong stated, "It is extremely important to increase the success rate of public projects in city administration. I will incorporate the insights gained from attending this PMI Board Meeting to further enhance the systematic approach and efficiency of our administration."
