Exhibition Taxi Crashes into Structure in Jeju
3 Passengers Seriously Injured... Sudden Acceleration Claimed
An electric taxi in Jeju failed to stop on an uphill road and crashed into a park structure. Three passengers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries, and the driver is currently claiming sudden unintended acceleration.

On the 24th, the Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju announced that around 12:05 PM on the previous day (23rd), an electric taxi driven by driver A (76) crashed into a structure installed along the road near the Sanbangsan public parking lot in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City, Jeju.
As a result of the accident, driver A and two female tourists in their 20s who were passengers suffered serious injuries to their heads and waists. They have been transferred to a hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. In the police investigation, A claimed that "the vehicle suddenly accelerated."
Meanwhile, cases of drivers claiming "sudden unintended acceleration" after accidents are increasing. On the 1st, a man in his 70s who drove about 250 meters in reverse on a one-way four-lane road toward Sejong-daero claimed sudden unintended acceleration, sparking controversy. The accident resulted in a total of nine deaths. On the 6th, an man in his 80s driving near Seoul Station crashed onto the sidewalk, injuring two pedestrians; he also claimed sudden unintended acceleration. On the 9th, in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, a car driven by a man in his 70s crossed the center line, causing a collision involving five vehicles; the driver also claimed sudden unintended acceleration.
Sudden unintended acceleration is a phenomenon where a vehicle accelerates rapidly without the driver's intention. Regarding the fuel types of vehicles involved in sudden unintended acceleration claims, the cases are as follows: gasoline 337, diesel 220, LPG 149, hybrid 34, and electric 26.
