On the 24th, Seoul City announced that it held the 11th Urban and Architectural Joint Committee meeting and approved with modifications the designation and planning decision for the district unit plan of the station area revitalization project in the area of 368-5 Gildong, Gangdong-gu.

With this district unit plan designation, a neighborhood commercial area and 192 apartment units will be built around Gildong Station, ranging from 6 basement floors to 19 above-ground floors.

Seoul City plans to activate the low-rise street frontage and secure front setbacks and open spaces to create a pedestrian-friendly environment.

Considering the high proportion of young children and newly incoming population in Gangdong-gu, an integrated children's support facility will be established. The facility will include a branch of the Gangdong Children's Center, a meal management support center, a child protection agency, a Dream Start Center, and a Seoul-style kids caf?.

This project is scheduled to begin construction in the second half of next year after permits such as architectural committee review, aiming for completion in 2027.

A Seoul City official said, "With this planning decision, we expect the area around Gildong Station to be reborn as a new living hub through street activation by connecting commercial districts centered on the Yangjae-daero station area and attracting various groups such as youth and newlyweds."

On the same day, Seoul City also approved with modifications the designation of a special planning district and detailed development plan for the station area revitalization project near Sagajeong Station on Line 7.

The project site is located at 650 Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, an area where a traditional market commercial district has been formed on the site of the existing Myeonmok Market. As the facilities have aged and vacancy rates have increased, the area requires environmental improvement and strengthening of station area functions.

The city aimed to designate this area as a special planning district and develop a mixed-use complex with neighborhood commercial spaces and 145 apartment units ranging from 6 basement floors to 20 above-ground floors to enhance commercial functions.

There are plans to activate the street connecting the traditional market and the food specialty street and designate front setbacks to improve the pedestrian environment. To accommodate market visitors and local residents, a communal childcare room and a local children's center will also be established. Idle parking spaces in the project site will be used as shared parking to alleviate parking difficulties.

A Seoul City official said, "With this planning decision, the area is expected to be reborn as a growth hub for Sagajeong Station and revitalize the Myeonmok-dong alley market commercial district."
