Handonghun "Division in the ruling party over Chaesangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act? ... We will show that the unity is just an illusion"

Han Dong-hoon Leads First Supreme Council Meeting as Representative

Han Dong-hoon, the newly appointed leader of the People Power Party, said on the 25th during the plenary session regarding the expected re-vote on the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, which is anticipated to be passed under opposition party leadership, "The idea that the People Power Party will split is a shallow expectation," and added, "We will unite as one and show that this expectation is a misconception."

Presiding over the People Power Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Han stated, "It seems highly likely that the opposition, including the Democratic Party of Korea, will suddenly table the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act today," and made these remarks.

He said, "I think the Democratic Party's choice of timing right after the People Power Party's party convention is a shallow expectation that the party will split due to lingering emotions after the convention," and added, "Throughout the entire party convention period, we have strongly opposed the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act proposed by the Democratic Party." He continued, "(The Democratic Party's special prosecutor law) is like a player choosing the referee and is an omnipotent law that destroys the judicial system, ultimately causing harm to the public," and said, "The People Power Party will firmly prevent the passage of this flawed law that harms the people. I will take the lead, so I ask both the parliamentary and non-parliamentary members to unite their efforts."

Regarding policy issues, Han proposed, "Let's prioritize the most urgent policies related to people's livelihoods, such as the abolition of the Financial Investment Income Tax (FIIT)." He said, "According to opinion polls, support for the implementation of FIIT next year is 34.6%, while opposition is 43.2%," and added, "I urge both the Democratic Party and the Justice Party to follow public sentiment and focus on livelihood politics."

Regarding his election as party leader, Han said, "Both party members and the public gave me the same 63% support," and added, "I take the meaning of this overwhelming number and the fact that party sentiment and public sentiment were exactly the same very seriously." He continued, "Our party members and the public overwhelmingly chose and commanded change," and expressed his ambition, saying, "Using the public's and party members' sentiment as a driving force for change, I will reform the People Power Party and politics to regain the public's trust and love."
