Criticism in City Council's 5-Minute Speech
Lee Youngae, a member of the Daegu Metropolitan Council (People Power Party, Dalseo-gu 1), is set to criticize Daegu City's passive administration, which has provided no support to victims of Jeonse fraud, during a five-minute free speech at the 3rd plenary session of the 310th temporary meeting on the 26th. She will urge the city to allocate budgets and establish support measures to provide practical assistance to the victims.
Through materials distributed in advance, Lee Youngae stated, "According to a report by local media on the 17th, Daegu is the only metropolitan city in the country with no support for Jeonse fraud victims. This was confirmed by investigation, and after the report, Daegu belatedly prepared a comprehensive plan without any budget allocation plans."
According to Councilor Lee, other metropolitan cities have enacted ordinances related to Jeonse fraud victim support and have allocated corresponding budgets to assist victims with loan interest, monthly rent, moving expenses, and emergency living costs.
However, after Councilor Kim Jeongok called for "countermeasures to prevent Jeonse fraud" during a five-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the 301st regular meeting of the Daegu Metropolitan Council on June 16 last year, Daegu City formed a dedicated team within the Urban Housing Division. Yet, even after a year of operation, there has been no budget or support projects, and the city has merely reported local damage cases to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Lee Youngae lamented, "Although the 'Daegu Metropolitan City Ordinance on Support and Housing Stability for Jeonse Fraud Victims' was enacted in February this year, led by Councilor Yuk Jeongmi, Daegu City has not even determined the scope or scale of support. This neglects the urgent suffering of Jeonse fraud victims and disregards the city council, which provided the legal grounds for support."
Lee Youngae went on to cite the words from a suicide note left by a woman in her 30s who became a victim of Jeonse fraud in Nam-gu, Daegu, earlier this year: 'Even if I plead for help, there is no one who will listen.' She strongly urged, "As an administrative body responsible for the livelihoods of its citizens, Daegu City must promptly secure a budget and measures to support the victims."
