Ministry of National Defense: "Under Investigation by the Inspector General's Office"
The defense attach? to the United States was recently recalled to South Korea and is reportedly under investigation. Defense Attach? A has been accused of abuse of power, including issuing private orders unrelated to official duties.
On the 24th, the Ministry of National Defense stated, "An allegation of inappropriate conduct by the defense attach? to the United States has been reported," and added, "He was recently summoned and is currently being investigated by the Ministry of National Defense Inspector General's Office."
Attach? A led the 'Miracle Operation' in 2021, which brought local Afghan collaborators to South Korea. In December of that year, he was promoted to brigadier general and dispatched as the defense attach? to the United States.
The defense attach? is a military officer affiliated with the Defense Intelligence Agency and holds diplomatic status. The attach? is assigned to the host country to carry out missions related to national security, including intelligence gathering and defense export cooperation.
Concerns have been raised that if issues arise in the investigation results affecting the schedule of meetings between South Korea and the United States, it could disrupt the execution and coordination of opinions for events such as the 56th Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) scheduled for October.
The Ministry of National Defense stated, "We plan to handle the matter according to laws and regulations based on the investigation results."
