Han: "Ruling Party's Strength is Synergy... Will Do Well"

On the same day, Han met with Hong Cheol-ho, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs of the Presidential Office, at the National Assembly and said, "The strength of the ruling party is the ability to create synergy." He added, "(Senior Secretary) is a comrade who ran together in the last election, so I am glad to see him again." He continued, "I had a brief phone call with the President yesterday, during which I conveyed my ambition to pursue good politics through dialogue and compromise, and the President encouraged me to do well. I will do my best."

After the meeting with Han, Senior Secretary Hong told reporters, "The President did not specifically ask me to convey any message," adding, "I spoke based on what the President said yesterday. That is always the President's way of thinking." Regarding the dinner scheduled between the Presidential Office and the new leadership of the People Power Party, he explained, "There must be a reason why the President invited the candidates who lost in the party convention," and said, "The President always says that he is in a position to take responsibility for everything, so I think this issue is not far from the perspective the President holds."

When asked if the dinner held that day at the outdoor garden Pine Grass of the Presidential Office was intended by the President to reconcile conflicts among party leader candidates during the party convention, Senior Secretary Hong replied, "The President did not pay close attention to or receive detailed reports on the rough exchanges during the party convention process as much as expected," and added, "From the beginning, our (Presidential Office's) stance was to wait and see, so we reported to the President at that level, and the President did not give any special instructions."

The dinner at the Pine Grass outdoor garden of the Presidential Office will be attended by Leader Han, the newly elected Supreme Council members, Floor Leader Chu Kyung-ho, and the party leader candidates who lost in the election.
