Impact of Delivery Market Decline Since COVID-19
Namwon City in Jeonbuk Province plans to terminate the operation of the public delivery application (app) 'Wolmaeyo' starting August 1.
According to 'Yonhap News' on the 24th, Namwon City announced that the operation of Wolmaeyo will end from the 1st of next month. Wolmaeyo is a public delivery app introduced in October 2021 to reduce the burden of membership fees and brokerage commissions for small business owners, and its operation will end after about three years.
The reason for the termination is reported to be a sharp decline in users due to fierce competition in the delivery app market. At one point, Wolmaeyo had about 100 affiliated stores and an average of around 500 daily users, but recently it has been virtually in a state of temporary closure.
Additionally, the delivery market size has decreased after COVID-19, and due to the city's characteristics of having a high proportion of elderly population, there were difficulties in securing users. Instead, the city plans to seek other ways to support small business owners.
