LG CNS Partners with Japanese Education Company 'Ion' to Launch Edutech Business

LG CNS Partners with Japanese Education Company 'Ion' to Launch Edutech Business

LG CNS announced on the 25th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aeon, an education company operating over 300 directly managed language institutes in Japan.

Based on this agreement, LG CNS will first promote digital transformation (DX) across all of Aeon's educational businesses, including ▲building an AI tutor application for English conversation in Japanese public education ▲advancing Aeon's online learning operation platform ▲integrating and analyzing online and offline learning data.

Furthermore, the two companies will launch a new app called 'AI Speak Tutor for School (tentative name)' and enter the Japanese English public education market. Since 2019, Japan has provided each elementary and middle school student with one ICT device (such as a laptop or iPad). The device distribution rate is known to exceed 99%, but AI-based English conversation content available for use remains insufficient.

LG CNS will also specialize the 'AI Speak Tutor 2,' currently offered to adult users in Japan, for elementary and middle school students. LG CNS will renew the existing conversation-focused AI Speak Tutor 2 into an integrated English learning app offering conversation, reading, listening, and testing. They also plan to provide AI English conversation services using English textbooks for Japanese elementary and middle school students. To achieve this, the two companies will utilize Aeon's English education curriculum and know-how accumulated over more than 50 years, along with LG CNS's technology.

Aeon's online learning platform will also be enhanced. The platform includes features such as instructor selection, class reservation, AI level testing, curriculum and student management. Within a single platform, students can freely engage in online learning, and instructors can manage many students. LG CNS plans to incorporate AI and big data-based integrated data management functions for students, instructors, and learning.

Through the platform, Aeon can collect and analyze all student data gathered from online and offline channels, including consultation records, lecture attendance data, and test records. Based on this, Aeon can provide personalized one-on-one customized learning courses tailored to each student’s needs.

LG CNS is also conducting an AI digital textbook platform construction project with education and publishing specialists in Korea. This is a high-level project that digitizes paper textbooks and uses AI to assess students' academic levels and provide customized learning, based on various DX technologies such as cloud, AI, and security.

Park Sang-gyun, Executive Vice President and Head of LG CNS’s Telecommunications, Distribution, and Service Division, stated, "This agreement marks a turning point to accelerate our attack on the Japanese edutech business," adding, "Together with Aeon, we will strategically expand the Japanese edutech market beyond B2C (business-to-consumer) to B2B (business-to-business) and B2G (business-to-government)."
