Four-Day Event Featuring Flea Market, Conference, and Pop-Up Stores
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that from the 24th to the 27th, a four-day 'Glocal Commercial District Project' launch ceremony and festival will be held at Jaktang in the Nambu Market of Jeonju City.
In April, the Ministry announced the 'Glocal Commercial District Project' to prevent regional extinction and revitalize the local economy, and selected target sites in June. The Glocal Commercial District Project is a project centered on local creators with commercial district planning capabilities to create premium commercial districts attracting visitors from home and abroad. This event was organized to widely promote the selected commercial district teams and support their achievement creation.
At the launch ceremony, under the theme "The Future of the Region is Glocal, The Future of Small Business Owners is Raicon," programs such as blueprint presentations by Glocal and local brand commercial district teams and talk concerts will be held. In particular, the Small Enterprise and Market Service, eight local governments where the Glocal and local brand sites are located, and BC Card will join forces to sign a business agreement to foster Glocal and local brand commercial districts.
At the talk concert, Minister Oh Young-joo of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will participate as a panelist to introduce the background of planning the Glocal creation project and listen to on-site suggestions and discussions on the theme "A New Perspective on the Region" together with experts, local government officials, and Glocal and local brand creation teams. Starting with the launch ceremony, local-related programs will also be held until the 27th. Events such as the Local Content University Conference, Local Brand Talk, pop-up stores, and cultural performances will be held, and local brand exhibitions and flea markets will be open throughout the four days. Professor Song In-bang of Gyeongsang National University, who participated in this event, said, "The policy to prevent regional extinction and revitalize the local economy by attracting domestic and international related populations to local commercial districts was fresh and very touching. Local universities can also participate in this."
Minister Oh said, "To prevent regional extinction, a new approach and effort differentiated from existing policies are necessary, and this Glocal Commercial District Fostering Project is the first attempt," adding, "Based on the unique content of the region, we will transform neighborhood commercial districts into glocal commercial districts with global appeal and transform the region into a place with diverse economic values."
