Gathering Ideas for a Premium Memorial Park... Pohang City Holds On-Site Meeting for Memorial Park Site About 100 senior officials of Pohang City, including Mayor Kangdeok Lee, visited the project site of the memorial park in Nultaeri, Guryongpo, Nam-gu on the 24th to discuss support measures for regional development.

The Pohang City Memorial Park is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028 with a project budget of 46.1 billion KRW. The city plans to develop the 330,000-square-meter (100,000-pyeong) site into a ‘premium funeral culture park’ by establishing funeral facilities, a Forest of Reflection, themed park projects such as trekking courses around the park, and cultural spaces.

The 100 or so public officials who visited the site that day examined the surrounding terrain of the proposed site, listened to the project briefing by the responsible department, and discussed ideas and measures for interdepartmental support to ensure the project's success.

To support the Guryongpo area, which has been selected as the site for the memorial park, the city has formed a Memorial Park Promotion Support Team to actively identify tailored support projects for each department. In addition, a ‘resident council’ is being formed with direct participation from Guryongpo residents to accelerate the establishment of a comprehensive development plan that promotes coexistence with citizens.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, “We will make the memorial park a model case where the city and local residents cooperate to successfully establish an essential urban facility,” and added, “We will pool all our wisdom to create the best premium funeral culture park that not only serves as a simple funeral facility but also improves the quality of life for citizens and transforms the city’s image.”
