A Sports Center with a Swimming Pool to Be Built on the Donation Land of Bangbae 5 District

Total Floor Area of 15,000㎡
Final Design Plan to Be Confirmed in October This Year

A multipurpose sports center equipped with a swimming pool will be built on the donation site in Bangbae 5 District, Seocho-gu, Seoul, where reconstruction is underway.

On the 24th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will create a multipurpose sports center with a total floor area of 15,000㎡ at 974-3 Bangbae-dong. The facility will include a swimming pool, a comprehensive gymnasium (the size of two basketball courts), and multipurpose program rooms, with a total project cost of approximately 74.3 billion KRW.

In particular, the swimming pool will be constructed to accommodate both recreational athletes and professional athletes, featuring 8 lanes of 50 meters in length and a depth of 2 meters, with auxiliary equipment installed for versatile use.

The city announced the design competition on the same day, with a briefing session scheduled for the 29th, and plans to finalize the design proposal after evaluation in October this year. Considering that the sports center is adjacent to a children’s park site, plans for both facilities will be accepted to ensure openness and public accessibility.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government stated, “The site borders the existing Dogumori Park and Isu Middle School to the south and has a challenging terrain with a height difference of more than 10 meters. The evaluation will be based on whether the design creatively addresses the architectural structural system, energy savings, and difficult site conditions, and whether it provides a barrier-free space that anyone can easily use.”

The city selected Kim Sooyoung, CEO of Sumbi Architects who designed the Yeongju City Indoor Swimming Pool, as the public architecture manager to establish the sports center construction plan. They will also collaborate during the design and construction phases to ensure the building’s quality, public nature, and innovation.

Lim Changsoo, Director of Future Space Planning at Seoul City, said, “We will create sports facilities that anyone can conveniently use to lead a healthy and valuable life in their daily routine.”
