Han River, Donghaeng, and Charm Captured... 'Design City Seoul' BI Unveiled

Companionship, Health, Charm, Change: A Four-Color Composition

A new brand identity (BI) for Seoul, representing the keywords 'Hangang', 'Donghaeng', and 'Maeryeok', has been created.

On the 24th, the city announced that it developed a new BI representing 'Design City Seoul' to effectively promote 'Design Seoul 2.0', announced last year, and actively publicize Seoul's design projects.

The city explained that this BI was developed to elevate the international status of Seoul's design policy and strengthen the city's identity and image in line with global standards. The new BI expresses Seoul as a multi-layered city where diverse designs and cultures blend. The layers symbolize Seoul's terrain and signify that Seoul's design and culture spread throughout the city, creating a vibrant and diverse urban environment. The four colors represent 'Donghaeng' (Companionship), 'Health', 'Maeryeok' (Charm), and 'Change', respectively.

Seoul plans to use the new BI as the logo for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The city was designated as a 'Design' Creative City by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2010. The new BI will also be used in promotional materials related to Seoul's design projects, including printed materials, promotional videos, and commemorative souvenirs.

This BI was developed through the '2024 Design Administrative Service Project'. This project supports the development of visual designs to brand the policies of each department under the Design Policy Division, delivering them to citizens in a more familiar and effective way.

Choi In-gyu, Seoul's Design Policy Officer, said, "Through the BI developed this time, we expect to effectively promote the identity of 'Design City Seoul' and enhance the international status of Seoul's design policies. We will continue to strive to increase Seoul's competitiveness through design."
