Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 24th that it has established infrastructure to prevent "random crimes" by installing an additional 152 "intelligent closed-circuit televisions (CCTV)" at 40 locations including parks and hiking trails this year.

The newly installed intelligent CCTVs this year include 112 units at 31 district parks such as Yangcheon Park, and 40 units at 9 city parks including Onsu Park. Additionally, 16 CCTVs at 11 locations, including Handueo Children's Park, which required replacement due to expiration of their service life, were upgraded to intelligent models.

Intelligent CCTV is a system that uses artificial intelligence technology to detect movements of objects such as people and vehicles, and automatically transmits video to the integrated control center in case of dangerous or emergency situations. Emergency bells that can notify the Yangcheon-gu Integrated Control Center and the police station of urgent situations were also installed to enable prompt response in emergencies.

The district secured a special adjustment grant of 1.12 billion KRW to expand CCTV installation in security-vulnerable areas such as parks and hiking trails (Dulle-gil) to protect residents from "random crimes and accidents" including abnormal motive crimes within parks, and completed the installations.

A total of 4,605 CCTVs are installed throughout Yangcheon-gu, of which 3,500 intelligent CCTVs are in operation. The district plans to discover optimal CCTV installation locations through big data analysis and an advanced integrated control system, and to sequentially expand the crime prevention infrastructure.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "CCTV is a fundamental security network that protects the lives and safety of residents," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a safe city where residents can live with peace of mind by minimizing blind spots of crime through proactive measures using advanced technology."
