Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a 'Dementia Care Primary Physician' service that comprehensively manages the health of dementia patients.
Yongin City announced on the 24th that it was selected as a region for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Dementia Care Primary Physician Pilot Project' and will provide this service through participating medical institutions in the area starting from the 23rd.
This project provides medical services that allow dementia patients living in the community to receive integrated treatment and management of dementia and overall health issues from a dementia care primary physician. The pilot project will be implemented for two years until June 2026.
Neurologists, psychiatrists, and physicians who have completed specialized dementia education affiliated with hospitals and clinics participating in this project will establish treatment and management plans for dementia patients and provide customized medical services. Additionally, linkage services with local resources such as Dementia Safety Centers, Long-term Care Insurance for the Elderly, and Dementia Safety Hospitals are also available.
The service targets citizens diagnosed with dementia, excluding those who are currently hospitalized. The hospitals and clinics participating in the project within the region include 11 locations: Yongin Severance Hospital, Gyeonggi Provincial Yongin Geriatric Hospital, Davos Hospital, Gwanggyo Neurology Clinic, The Naeun Neurology Clinic, Baemyungcheol Neurology Clinic, Suji El Internal Medicine Clinic, Yonsei Family Medicine Clinic, Euddeum Family Medicine Clinic, Jeil Family Clinic, and Cham Family Clinic.
An official from the city stated, "Through the two-year pilot project operation period, we will establish a community-based integrated management system that can comprehensively manage dementia and health issues."
