Child Meal Cards? Side Dishes? Lunchbox Delivery? Meal Support Through Group Dining Facilities
Meal Unit Price Increased from 8,000 Won to 9,000 Won Starting February This Year
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it will provide meal support to about 1,400 vulnerable children in the area during the summer vacation period.
The summer vacation meal support for children was established to prevent the occurrence of food-insecure children due to the suspension of school meals during the vacation period.
The district operated an intensive application period for child meal support from June 26 to the 10th of this month, and based on the selection results, will provide meals during the summer vacation period.
The support targets are approximately 1,400 children under 18 years old, both enrolled and not enrolled in school, from households with a standard median income of 60% or less who are at risk of food insecurity due to reasons such as absence of guardians, poverty, or illness.
Eligible children can use the Child Meal Card (Kkum Namu Card) to dine at regular restaurants or convenience stores, or receive meals through side dishes, lunchbox delivery, or group meal centers (local children's centers).
Since February, the district has increased the unit price of child meals from 8,000 KRW to 9,000 KRW per meal to provide higher quality food to children at risk of food insecurity. Additionally, during the vacation period, meals are provided seven days a week, and six days a week outside the vacation period.
The district also conducts hygiene inspections of child meal providers to ensure proper hygiene management during the summer. By checking cooking utensils, food storage conditions, and the personal hygiene of cooks, it prevents food poisoning and other group infections, providing safe meals.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We will actively identify and support children at risk of food insecurity in blind spots to ensure that no child skips meals during the summer vacation period.”
