Dobong-gu Unclaimed Elderly Heritage Donation

Elderly Person A with No Heirs Donates Entire Estate After Death
With Consent from A's Children, All Inheritance Transferred to Legacy Club

Dobong-gu Unclaimed Elderly Heritage Donation

The inheritance of a basic livelihood security recipient elderly person who lived alone and passed away was donated to help neighbors in need within the community.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that the inheritance of Elderly Person A, who died at the end of last month without any known relatives, was delivered to the Legacy Club in mid-this month with the consent of the children.

This inheritance donation is the first case of the “The Most Beautiful Promise in the World, Inheritance Donation Support Project for Elderly Persons without Relatives” promoted by the district.

This project supports elderly persons willing to donate their inheritance by linking with the Community Chest of Korea’s “Legacy Club.”

The district discovers candidates for inheritance donation and provides guidance on the current inheritance processing procedures, after which the Community Chest of Korea appoints a notarized will lawyer and executes the will.

The inheritance left by Elderly Person A without relatives will be used for marginalized children and neighbors in the local community.

Previously, the district was regularly monitoring Elderly Person A through smart plug and other smart safety check services. One day, an abnormal sign was detected in the system, and an employee from the local community service center visited and found that Elderly Person A had already passed away.

Afterwards, the district supported the funeral procedures, guided the children of Elderly Person A on inheritance donation, obtained their consent, and proceeded with a special posthumous donation.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “It is not an easy decision for the bereaved family to follow the wishes of an elderly person without relatives during their lifetime. We thank the bereaved family for making a great decision to practice sharing in the community. We hope that this first inheritance donation case will spread positive influence throughout the local society.” He added, “Going forward, the district will continue to carry out more social contribution activities and strive for the development of a community where we live together.”
