Paris Olympics: Songpa-gu Joins the Race! ... Cheering for the Athletes Paris Olympics Songpa-gu cheering video capture

As the '33rd Paris Olympics' opens on the 25th, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has launched a campaign to support the South Korean athletes, embracing the identity of the Olympic host city.

Songpa-gu was the main venue for the '24th Seoul Olympics' held in 1988. It was the largest Olympics in history, with 13,626 athletes from 160 countries participating worldwide. Memories of that time remain throughout the city, with Jamsil Sports Complex, Olympic Park, and athlete accommodations located in various places.

Based on this, domestic sports-related educational institutions and organizations such as Korea National Sport University, Seoul Physical Education High School, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee are concentrated in Songpa-gu, boasting exceptional sports capabilities.

A total of 143 South Korean athletes are participating in the Paris Olympics. Among them, 10 are based in Songpa-gu.

These include Lee Eun-ji (swimming), a third-year student at Bangsan High School and the youngest member of the Korean swimming team; Ku Bon-gil (fencing), Woo Ha-ram (swimming), Shin Jeong-hwi (swimming) from the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation; Seo Geon-woo (taekwondo), Ryu Seong-hyun (gymnastics), Lee Da-young (gymnastics), Yang Ji-in (shooting), Lim Si-hyun (archery), and Seong Seung-min (modern pentathlon) from Korea National Sport University.

Notably, the women's artistic gymnastics team event, including Lee Da-young, has qualified for the first time in 36 years since the Seoul Olympics, making it a highlight to watch. Additionally, taekwondo athlete Seo Geon-woo has advanced to the Olympic finals in the 80kg category, known as the 'magic weight class,' becoming the first Korean athlete to do so. Lim Si-hyun is also drawing attention as she challenges the women's archery team’s '10 consecutive Olympic gold medals' streak.

The district has prepared cheering events to help the athletes perform at their best.

On the 25th, Songpa TV’s YouTube channel will release the 'Fighting Hae-ya-ji, K-pop Challenge.' A public official in charge of YouTube production at Songpa-gu Office will send energetic cheers to the athletes with lively dance moves to the official Team Korea cheer song 'Fighting Hae-ya-ji' at Jamsil Sports Complex.

Also, on Songpa-gu’s official SNS channels, visitors can enjoy a Paris Olympics cheering quiz event and special articles written by blog reporters, showcasing various scenes of Seoul Olympic landmarks.

Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu said, “We will cheer together with 660,000 Songpa residents so that the sweat shed by the athletes bears valuable fruit,” and added, “As an Olympic host city, we will continue to support the nurturing of excellent sports talents based on diverse sports infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, in January last year, the district developed a new city character called 'Haha Hoho' by storytelling the Seoul Olympic mascots 'Hodori' and 'Hosuni.' It is actively used in tourism souvenirs and district promotional materials, continuing the identity of the Olympic city.
