Ryu Hee-rim, Chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, has been reappointed.

On the 23rd, President Yoon Suk-yeol sent an official letter to the Commission, appointing Chairman Ryu, lawyer Kang Kyung-pil, and Professor Kim Jeong-su of Kookmin University as his recommended members.

The three newly appointed members, along with ruling party-recommended members Kim Woo-seok and Heo Yeon-hoe, whose terms remain until the 5th of next month, held a plenary meeting that afternoon and elected Chairman Ryu as chairman by secret ballot. Chairman Ryu, whose term had expired the previous day, was reappointed and will begin a new three-year term.

Although the terms of four commissioners recommended by the Speaker of the National Assembly and the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee expired the previous day, candidate recommendations have not yet been made. Additionally, members Kim Woo-seok and Heo Yeon-hoe are scheduled to end their terms on the 5th of next month, but considering the situation in the National Assembly, it is assessed that the process is unlikely to proceed as planned.

The nine commissioners of the Commission are composed of three presidential appointees, three appointed by the Speaker of the National Assembly (in consultation with the floor negotiation groups), and three appointed by the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee, making a 6 to 3 ratio between the ruling and opposition parties.
