Caregiving Specialist Care Workers: Another Family for Seniors
The Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the National Health Insurance Service (headed by Choi Deokgeun) has produced and distributed aprons with promotional slogans to improve the image of care workers who have played a key role in the long-term care service field.
Care workers are trained professionals who have obtained national certification and perform tasks such as assisting the elderly with daily activities and cognitive support. However, despite the intensity of their labor and their roles, they are often perceived merely as simple helpers, and social recognition remains low.
In response, the organization is promoting this project in collaboration with the Ulsan Long-Term Care Worker Support Center to enhance the recognition of care workers. Aprons have been distributed to 88 locations in Ulsan, and three design samples have been posted on the website so that local long-term care institutions can utilize them.
The Long-Term Care Worker Support Center is a facility established for the protection of the rights of long-term care workers in accordance with Article 47-2 of the Long-Term Care Insurance Act for the Elderly.
A representative from a long-term care institution stated, "The slogans on the aprons, such as 'Our Care Experts, Care Workers,' emphasize a sense of responsibility for the staff and deliver a message of mutual trust to the elderly and their guardians, which is expected to foster positive communication in the field."
Choi Deokgeun, the head of the regional headquarters, said, "A high-quality long-term care insurance system is built together by the elderly, their families, and care workers. We will continue to strive for the improvement of the treatment and image of care workers."
