With Governor Kim Taeheum of Chungnam and Mayor Lee Jangwoo of Daejeon expressing agreement on the Chungnam-Daejeon integration proposal, attention is focusing on its feasibility.

Kang Seonggi, Director of Planning and Coordination, stated at the 4th meeting of the 354th Planning and Economy Committee held on the 23rd, "It seems that both the Governor and Mayor Lee Jangwoo have reached a consensus on the administrative integration of Daejeon and Chungnam," adding, "We are currently preparing at the working level, looking at the case of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, which are also pursuing administrative integration."

He further added, "This will also be discussed at the level of the Chungcheong Regional Metropolitan Union, and for now, I can only say that we need to proceed while listening to the opinions of the executive branch, experts, and the council."

Previously, Governor Kim Taeheum stated in a report at the 354th interim session on the 16th, "We will make thorough preparations so that the Chungcheong Metropolitan Union can be launched this year," and "During my term, I will pursue a two-track approach to achieve administrative integration between Chungnam and Daejeon."

Following this, Mayor Lee Jangwoo also fueled the integration discussion by ordering an in-depth study on the Chungnam-Daejeon integration proposal at the weekly business meeting held on the 22nd.

Mayor Lee said, "Since the Chungnam governor shares similar thoughts, first consult with Chungnam and then conduct a thorough study on comprehensive plans that could include Chungbuk as well," adding, "If Chungnam and Daejeon had not been separated, the region's capabilities might have grown even more. However, since there are various interests involved, sufficient time is needed."
