Changwon Special City Installs 54 Safe Crossing Lights to Prevent Nighttime Pedestrian Accidents Crosswalk Safety Light.

The 'Crosswalk Safety Light Installation Project' involves installing 'recessed LED marker lights' at regular intervals on both sides of crosswalks, similar to an airplane runway, so that drivers and pedestrians can easily recognize the crosswalks at night.

Changwon City invested 180 million KRW and, starting with two pilot sites in 2022, completed the installation of safety lights at a total of 88 locations: 34 in 2023 and 54 in 2024.

To reduce traffic accidents, the city has been continuously implementing initiatives such as 'road surface colored guidance lines installation,' 'TBN Traffic Radio promotions,' and 'traffic safety campaigns for citizens' every year.

Additionally, this year, to create safe school routes, the city is focusing on the 'pedestrian environment improvement project' by conducting a full survey of disconnected pedestrian paths around all 240 schools in the area and installing crosswalks where needed.

As a result of Changwon City's ongoing efforts to reduce traffic accidents through various projects, the number of traffic accident fatalities decreased from 61 in 2022 to 48 in 2023. This is a 21.31% reduction compared to the previous year, which is a significant decrease compared to the nationwide reduction of 6.73% and Gyeongnam's 8.14% decrease.

Lee Jongdeok, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, said, "We will continue to actively improve facilities to create a safe and pleasant traffic environment for citizens and do our best to prevent traffic accidents."
