24-Hour Real-Time Response to Measured Floods
Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 23rd that it has installed a smart measurement management system in Songhak Stream, which flows through the center of Goseong-eup.
The county has been promoting the 'Smart Measurement Management System Establishment Project' for small streams with high disaster risk, following the installation at five locations last year, including Gurye Stream in Gaecheon-myeon.
The smart measurement management system measures and analyzes the water level, flow velocity, flow rate, and CCTV footage of small streams in real time 24 hours a day. It predicts flood risks such as stream overflow and notifies the public through warning broadcasts and disaster text messages.
Small streams are characterized by steep slopes and small watershed areas, causing water levels to rise rapidly during heavy rainfall. In preparation, the system can predict the possibility of floods in advance and quickly guide residents to evacuate in emergencies, thereby preventing loss of life and property damage beforehand.
The county plans to invest 1.7 billion KRW, including national funds, from 2023 to 2027 to install the smart measurement management system at 24 small streams in residential areas at risk of overflow, enabling rapid evacuation of residents in emergencies.
Through the installation of measuring devices, the county aims to obtain accurate data on small streams and establish a disaster response system that can forecast and predict water levels based on this data.
Construction Division Chief Lee Sanghan said, "We will make efforts to prevent loss of life caused by stream overflow in advance through continuous monitoring and a rapid response system."
