Kang Minsu, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, "Will Introduce 'Tax Evasion Detection System' Incorporating AI Technology" Kang Min-su, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, is delivering his inaugural speech at the Government Complex Sejong on the 23rd.

In May of this year, the National Tax Service became the first government agency to introduce an AI consultation service. Taxpayers had expressed significant dissatisfaction due to having to make multiple calls and wait long hours to receive consultations. To resolve this issue, an AI-based consultation service was introduced. Initially, during the comprehensive income tax filing period, the AI tax consultation service increased the call success rate from only 26% last year to 98%.

Commissioner Kang explained, "We will gradually expand AI-based tax consultations from comprehensive income tax to all major tax categories," adding, "We plan to implement an intelligent Hometax system to dramatically improve the convenience of filing and payment services."

Considering the tax revenue shortfall due to economic sluggishness, the National Tax Service will focus more on its core duties of national resource procurement and fair taxation. Commissioner Kang said, "While boldly reducing unnecessary tasks, we will reinforce tax administration on the ground by reallocating personnel, including slimming down headquarters and regional offices, to meet tax service demands," and added, "We will further improve filing and payment support materials and non-face-to-face tax services to reduce the time and effort required for taxpayers."

He emphasized strict tax audits against malicious and sophisticated tax evasion. He stated, "In cases where malicious and sophisticated tax evasion causes social unrest or results in unfair gains, we will firmly and decisively use all effective means stipulated by tax law, such as irregular selection and temporary retention of books, without hesitation," and added, "We will also devise effective countermeasures, including tax law amendments, against acts that intentionally delay document submission or obstruct investigations citing reasons such as overseas data."
