Seocho-gu, IT Education Center Revamped to 'Bridge Digital Divide and Support Middle-Aged Reemployment'

Expansion of Educational Scope by Field and Level

Seocho-gu, IT Education Center Revamped to 'Bridge Digital Divide and Support Middle-Aged Reemployment' Seocho-gu has newly reorganized and is operating an IT Education Center. Provided by Seocho-gu.

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 23rd that it has newly reorganized and is operating the Seocho-gu IT Education Center to bridge the digital divide among the elderly and support career development and reemployment for the middle-aged generation.

The district expanded the scope of education by dividing courses, which were previously classified only by difficulty, into fields and levels. Courses in newly established fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital finance select their curriculum and instructors through an open call for external lecturers.

In fact, among the 110 middle-aged instructors trained in the first half of this year, there are not only experts in related fields but also instructors who received reemployment training such as the ‘4050 Job Competency Enhancement Education’ at the Seocho 50 Plus Center, representing a variety of occupations.

This operational method provides activity opportunities for middle-aged individuals who need career development, thereby creating jobs. Unlike before, when the beneficiaries of the project were limited to course participants, instructors also become beneficiaries of the project.

Additionally, since 2019, the district has operated a VR experience zone exclusively for the elderly, and it has introduced Apple’s spatial computing device, Vision Pro, to operate the first Vision Pro experience zone for the elderly in Seoul. The Seocho-gu IT Education Center plans to operate the trial experience space through reservations starting from the 22nd.

Meanwhile, the Seocho-gu IT Education Center offers IT education for Seocho-gu residents aged 55 and older. Course registration is available during the last week of every month, and detailed information such as the education schedule and curriculum can be found on the Seocho-gu Office website under the Citizen Informatization Classroom bulletin board.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will strive to create an environment where aging in Seocho is happy by providing extensive IT education to digitally marginalized elderly people to reduce the digital divide, and actively creating opportunities for the middle-aged, whose retirement age is getting earlier, to challenge themselves as instructors.”
