396 Cases, 20 Casualties, Property Damage of 5.1 Billion Won
Negligence 49.7%, Electrical Causes 24.2%, Unknown Causes 11.9%
The number of fires that occurred in Daejeon during the first half of this year decreased by 30% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Daejeon Fire Headquarters on the 23rd, there were 396 fires in Daejeon this year, resulting in 20 casualties (4 deaths and 16 injuries), and property damage estimated at approximately 5.1 billion won.
Compared to the first half of last year, the number of fires decreased by 172 cases (30.3%), casualties by 8 people (28.6%), and property damage by 176 billion won (97.2%).
By location, non-residential facilities accounted for 34.8%, other outdoor areas 29%, and residential facilities 25%. By cause, carelessness was the most common at 49.7%, followed by electrical faults at 24.2%, and unknown causes at 11.9%.
In particular, the number of fires in residential facilities decreased by 38.1% and property damage by 51.3% compared to the previous year. This was analyzed as the effect of the distribution of residential fire safety equipment and ongoing fire safety education that has been promoted since 2019.
An official from the Daejeon Fire Headquarters said, "Although the number of fires has significantly decreased compared to last year, many fires are still caused by carelessness, so we ask citizens to pay close attention to fire prevention."
