Hanwha Makes Debut at Australian Maritime Defense Exhibition... Showcases Advanced Warships and Weapon Systems

Promoting Hanwha Brand and Defense Technology

Hanwha Ocean Showcases Four Types Including Frigates and Submarines

Hanwha Systems Exhibits Advanced Naval Equipment

Hanwha Group's leading defense companies are putting significant effort into promoting the Hanwha brand by participating in a maritime defense exhibition held in Australia.

Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Systems will participate in the IODS (Indian Ocean Defence & Security) exhibition, which will take place in Perth, Australia from the 24th to the 26th. They plan to showcase world-class surface ships, submarines, and various advanced naval equipment.

Hanwha Ocean possesses world-leading capabilities in building commercial vessels and warships, while Hanwha Systems is recognized as a powerhouse in the maritime systems field, with proprietary technologies for developing combat management systems and unmanned maritime systems.

The two companies aim to demonstrate South Korea's outstanding maritime technology capabilities and actively enhance the recognition of the Hanwha brand in the Australian naval market by leveraging their synergy at this exhibition.

At this exhibition, Hanwha Ocean will present three types of frigates and the Jangbogo-III Batch-2 submarine. Hanwha Systems will display the Integrated Combat System (ICS), a core piece of equipment that maximizes a vessel's combat power, as well as the Korean Destroyer Integrated Mast (KDDX I-MAST).

The frigates exhibited by Hanwha Ocean are equipped with the latest weapon systems tailored to the operational requirements of the Royal Australian Navy. The Jangbogo-III Batch-2 submarine, currently under construction, is regarded as the world’s most advanced diesel submarine. It is the first in the world to be equipped with both Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) and lithium-ion batteries, boasting the best submerged endurance among existing diesel submarines. It also has excellent performance, capable of operating various armaments such as torpedoes and cruise missiles.

Hanwha Systems' Integrated Combat System (ICS) is a comprehensive naval integration solution centered on the Combat Management System (CMS), which acts as the "brain" of the ship, and manages advanced equipment to be installed on future vessels.

The Integrated Mast (I-MAST) is a key piece of equipment for the Republic of Korea Navy's next-generation main warship, the 6,000-ton Korean Destroyer (KDDX). It is a new-concept weapon system developed purely with domestic technology, serving as a sensor composite mast that enhances the vessel’s stealth capabilities.

Additionally, Hanwha Systems will showcase a total marine unmanned system solution based on hyper-connectivity, advanced intelligence, and convergence capabilities, including the unmanned surface vessel Haeryeong (Sea GHOST), the Anti-Submarine Warfare Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (ASWUUV), Low Earth Orbit Communication Satellite (LEO Comsat), and Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) systems.

A Hanwha Ocean representative stated, "Hanwha Ocean is the only domestic defense company that has exported both surface ships and submarines to the world," adding, "We will continue to lead global defense technology and enhance our nation’s prestige so that vessels built by Hanwha Ocean can operate across the world’s oceans."

A Hanwha Systems representative said, "Hanwha Systems will continue to develop core maritime assets that can be used in future anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare, expanding our export markets beyond Australia," and added, "We will strive to enhance the Republic of Korea's maritime combat power while securing future growth engines for the company."

IODS began in 2018 as a conference to discuss and showcase the strengthening of security alliances such as AUKUS and Quad, which include Australia, and the future strategies of global defense technology. This year, it has transformed into a large-scale defense exhibition for the first time.
