SK On Lee Seok-hee "Do Not Hesitate to Invest in People and Research"

Seoul National University CEO Special Lecture "Driving Growth of Battery Industry Based on Technological Innovation"

Lee Seok-hee, CEO of SK On, visited his alma mater Seoul National University and told juniors, "We must not spare investment in people and research to prepare for future growth."


SK On announced on the 23rd that CEO Lee visited Seoul National University in Gwanak-gu, Seoul on the 22nd and gave a special lecture titled "The Scheduled Future, Let's Move Forward Together." The lecture was attended by about 80 faculty members including Kim Young-oh, Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, Kang Ki-seok, Director of the Secondary Battery Innovation Research Institute, and master's and doctoral students.

CEO Lee engaged in candid communication by sharing his experiences in response to juniors' questions about the battery industry and concerns about their career paths. Attendees asked various questions such as what the driving force behind his many achievements as a semiconductor expert and business executive was, and what dreams he currently holds.


Regarding the driving force behind his achievements as an engineer turned executive, CEO Lee said, "It was the desire to change the world through technology," adding, "I hope we can share the joy of leaving a mark on the world."


When asked about the prospects of the electric vehicle battery industry, he said, "Electrification is a scheduled future, and the core of that journey is improving battery performance," adding, "We must not spare investment in people and research to prepare for future growth. That is why I am here."


He continued, "SK On has achieved the fastest growth in the industry through large-scale orders and active expansion," emphasizing, "We will continue to secure cost competitiveness based on technological innovation and lead the growth of the global battery industry."


CEO Lee graduated from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University and earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University in the United States. He started his career at Hyundai Electronics and received the 'Intel Technology Award' three times while working at Intel in the U.S. He served as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at KAIST in 2010, became CEO of SK Hynix in 2018, and has been serving as CEO of SK On since last year.


To secure outstanding talent, SK On conducted one-on-one employment mentoring for Seoul National University students prior to the lecture. In addition, SK On nurtures master's and doctoral students through battery contract departments at KAIST, UNIST, Sungkyunkwan University, and Hanyang University, and supports talent through joint research centers at Yonsei University and Hanyang University. SK On is continuously recruiting talent across all research and development sectors.
