Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it will provide cleaning support starting next month to improve the cleanliness level of privately operated public restrooms.
Privately operated public restrooms are restrooms opened for free use by anyone through consultation with the owners or managers of commercial and private facilities, in accordance with the 'Public Restroom Act.' The designation of a private public restroom is decided through evaluation when the facility owner or manager submits an 'Application for Public Restroom Designation' to the district office. The restroom must be located on the first floor of the facility and meet the criteria of being accessible without passing through a business store.
The city has been providing supplies worth approximately 200,000 KRW monthly to private public restrooms. With this expanded support, from next month until the end of the year, the city will hire professional cleaning companies to provide internal cleaning, disinfection, and pest control twice a week. The target includes 32 facilities rated 'Good' or higher. A city official stated, "We will continue to expand support to designate more private public restrooms."
Meanwhile, the city conducted inspections for illegal hidden cameras this month in public restrooms managed by the city itself and in restrooms within 316 private tourism, cultural, and sports facilities in the region.
