Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 23rd that it has completed the installation of Bus Information Terminals (BIT) at all village bus stops, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to do so, and will officially operate them starting this month.

The district completed construction targeting 41 village bus stops without terminals, as village buses serve as a transportation means connecting every alley and are frequently used by local residents and the elderly. After a pilot operation, residents can now check bus arrival information at 110 stops, excluding terminal (nearby) and garage stops, out of the 119 village bus stops in Yangcheon-gu, just like city buses.

The installation of village bus information terminals has been promoted in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the village bus association through an agreement until 2019. However, as the village bus association faced financial difficulties in installing terminals, the district invested about 400 million KRW of its own budget to expand installation this year.

Unlike city bus stops, which have a high rate of terminal installation, many village bus stops lacked terminals, causing inconvenience for residents trying to check bus arrival times.

The installed terminals are standalone units with built-in separate electronic display boards. The data collection cycle for village bus arrival information has been shortened to a maximum of 20 seconds, enabling the provision of accurate traffic information that reflects detours and unexpected situations.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “We installed information terminals at all village bus stops to alleviate the vague waiting discomfort of residents using village buses. We will provide meticulous transportation services to ensure there is no inconvenience or underserved areas in public transportation, which serves as the lifeline for our residents.”
